Successful people have goals. They decide what they want to achieve and they work out the steps they need to take to achieve it. But it is important to choose SMART goals.
S - specific | something that is right to the point |
M - measurable | you have enough time available to you to achieve what you want |
A - achievable | something that you know you will achieve |
R - realistic | something that is possible for you to reach |
T - time | you will know when you have achieve it |
Different kinds of goals
Can we achieve our goals quickly? Or do goals take a long time to achieve?
Some goals take a long time. We call them long term. Long term goals might take 5-10 years to achieve. We can know our long term goals when we answer a question like:
Where do I hope to be in 5-10 years time?
We can achieve some goals quite quickly. We call them short term goals. Short term goals might only take a day, a week or a month to achieve. We can know our short term goals when we answer the question:
Where do I hope I will be in a week/a month?
We can also have mid-term goals. They can take one or two years to achieve. They can be a special examination or project that you are working on.
Mid-term goals are often an important step towards a long term goal.
